Verity crafting guide: every recipe and what to build first

Published 2026-09-20

Crafting in Verity is deliberately simple: open your inventory with E, pick a material and the game shows you everything that material can become. There is no recipe book to memorise — but knowing the priority order saves you a dangerous first night.

Every recipe at a glance

From oak wood

From stone and cobblestone

From coal, sand and food

From diamonds

What to craft first

  1. Wooden pickaxe. Without it you cannot mine stone, and stone is what makes a base that actually protects you.
  2. Torches. Light keeps you safe and it is the cheapest recipe in the game. Craft a bundle as soon as you find coal.
  3. Stone pickaxe and stone sword. Faster mining and a real weapon before the first night.
  4. Stone bricks. Use them on your outer walls once you have spare cobblestone.
  5. Diamond gear last. Save your diamonds for a diamond pickaxe before a sword — better mining snowballs into everything else.

A note on diamonds

Diamonds are rare, and you can also earn a few free ones in the shop. They have two uses: crafting the best tools, or feeding them to Verity with a right click to restore its sanity. Early on, prioritise the pickaxe; keep one diamond spare for an emergency sanity top-up (see our sanity guide).

Learn the movement keys first in our controls guide, then open Verity and craft your first pickaxe.
