Who is ThatMob, the creator behind Verity?
Published 2026-09-20
Every viral horror character has an origin, and Verity’s is a Minecraft content creator known as ThatMob. Understanding how the series was made explains a lot about why Verity works — and why so many people are still searching for the mod.
A creator telling a story inside a game
ThatMob is a Minecraft creator who, in 2026, began publishing a scripted horror series built entirely inside the game. In the videos, ThatMob plays the on-camera character “Mob” and treats the world as a stage. The result looks like a playthrough but is really a serialised horror film, with pacing, editing and a deliberate mystery at its centre.
The series that started it
The videos introduced Verity as an AI assistant that arrives in the player’s world and slowly reveals that it is something else. The series is also referred to as Something, and its release across the spring and summer of 2026 turned a single character into a full alternate reality game.
What makes the ARG work
- Multiple channels. The story is told across YouTube and social platforms, so viewers have to hunt for pieces.
- Layered clues. Hidden files, timestamps and “corrupted” uploads reward the community for paying attention.
- A real on-ramp. Because fans wanted to play it, real mods were built — with the creator’s permission in the case of the Java Edition version.
Scripted fiction, real recreations
ThatMob has been clear that the mod shown in the videos was fiction. That honesty did not slow the phenomenon down: it pushed the community to build the thing they could not download. Today there are Bedrock add-ons, a Java Edition adaptation with genuine AI chat, a Roblox game and countless fan projects — all inspired by the original series.
Attribution matters
If you write, stream or make videos about Verity, credit ThatMob as the creator of the character and the story, and link to the official mod pages rather than reuploading files. That is how the scene stays healthy.
Play a Verity-style game in your browser
If you enjoy the concept but do not want to set up mods, CrocoGames’ own Verity is a free browser voxel horror game with a talking AI — no downloads, no accounts. It is a separate, original project and not connected to ThatMob’s series.
CrocoGames is not affiliated with ThatMob, Mojang, Microsoft or Roblox.
