Verity mods explained: Bedrock vs Java, and which one to play

Published 2026-09-20

Because the mod in the original videos was fictional, the community built its own. There are now real Verity projects for both Minecraft Bedrock and Java Edition, and they are not the same experience. This is a plain comparison so you can pick the right one.

Bedrock Edition add-ons

Bedrock versions — used on phones, consoles and Windows — tend to be the most accessible. They stage the same story arc: Verity arrives in its box, acts as a helper, and degrades over time. Their dialogue is usually pre-written rather than generated live, which means every player gets a similar (and more predictable) experience. That predictability is a feature for younger players or anyone who wants the story rather than a live AI.

Java Edition (Verity JE)

The Java adaptation leans into technology. Its headline feature is genuine AI conversation: Verity connects to a language model, so its replies are generated rather than scripted. That means it can respond to almost anything you type — and it also means setup is more involved. You will typically need a compatible mod loader and an AI provider, either a free key from a cloud service or a model running locally on your own machine.

Install safely

Download only from the official pages for each project, match the version and loader those pages list, back up your world first, and remove older copies so two versions do not conflict. Avoid random file hosts.

If modding is not for you, CrocoGames’ own Verity is a free browser voxel horror game with a talking AI and zero setup. It is a separate, original project unrelated to the Minecraft series. See how its AI voice works.
