Verity sanity explained: keep Verity friendly with diamonds

Sanity is the hidden system that decides whether Verity is your guide or your hunter. It is not shown as a number you can ignore — the HUD has a sanity bar, and once you understand how it moves, the horror becomes something you can manage.
How sanity falls
Verity starts a fresh world at full sanity. On day 1 it is essentially safe. After day 2, sanity begins to fall automatically — slowly, on a timer, whether you do anything or not. That is the clock the whole game is built around: the longer you survive, the more attention you have to pay to Verity.
How to raise sanity
- Feed Verity a diamond. Aim at Verity, hold a diamond and right-click. This gives a big +20 sanity boost and is the fastest way to pull it back from a dangerous mood.
- Stay calm in chat. Friendly, ordinary messages help hold the mood. Taunting or threatening Verity can lower its sanity instead.
- Don’t ignore it. A low-sanity Verity is more aggressive at night, so topping up during daylight is cheaper than panicking after dark.
Where to get diamonds
Diamonds are found underground while mining, and you can also earn a few free in the shop by watching a short ad. They are used for the best tools, so there is a real trade-off: every diamond you feed to Verity is a diamond you are not turning into a pickaxe. Keep one spare for emergencies and spend the rest on gear.
A simple sanity routine
- Day 1: ignore sanity, gather wood and build shelter.
- Day 2: mine for diamonds and coal, keep an eye on the bar.
- Day 3+: if the badge reads UNSTABLE or worse, feed one diamond and carry on.
