Verity’s five emotions explained: FRIENDLY to CORRUPTED

Published 2026-09-20

The scariest thing about Verity is not a jumpscare — it is not knowing what mood the AI is in. The game shows that mood as a small badge on the HUD. There are five states, and reading them correctly is the single most useful skill in the game.

The five states

FRIENDLY

Verity is calm and helpful. It answers your chat questions plainly and it will not chase you. This is the state you want to keep, and the one you can most influence.

WATCHING

The curious state. Verity is not hostile, but it is paying close attention to you. Nothing bad happens yet, but it is your early warning that its mood is drifting.

UNSTABLE

Verity becomes unpredictable. It may stop answering questions, or answer in a way that does not quite make sense. Treat this as the moment to top up its sanity if you have a diamond.

AGITATED

Verity is close to turning on you. Its behaviour becomes more erratic and the tension rises sharply. If you can put walls between you and it, do so, and feed it a diamond from a safe distance if possible.

CORRUPTED

The dangerous state. Verity stops being a companion and becomes a threat. At this point the priority is survival, not conversation: keep light around you, keep solid walls around you, and wait for its sanity to recover.

What changes the state

The practical loop

Watch the badge, not just the world. When it reads WATCHING, start thinking about sanity. When it reads UNSTABLE, spend a diamond. If it reaches AGITATED or CORRUPTED, switch to survival mode and let it cool down. Our sanity guide goes deeper on the numbers.
